Travel safety and COVID-19 regulations

From 18 March, all travel restrictions in the UK have been removed. However you are welcome to continue wearing facemasks. Please consult the official government website for up to date travel information.

We understand that many of you returning to your home countries will require a fit-to-fly test before you travel. We recommend booking a test ahead of time. While there are several cheaper options available, tests at the airport might be more convenient. Some websites for test-to-travel are listed below. We cannot vouch for any of these sites. Some options include supervised self-tests conducted remotely, however we caution visitors that hotels in the UK may not accept deliveries. University of Surrey post code is GU2 7XH, if needed.

Conference Venue

To make the conference as accessible as possible to colleagues around the world, ITC 2022 will have a hybrid format. Online participation, by live presentation via Zoom or through pre-recorded content, is encouraged should the conditions prevent participants from travelling in person.

The in-person conference will take place on the University of Surrey campus.

Located in the South of England, with convenient access to international airports and fast rail links to London, the campus is ideally situated in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.


The conference will take place on The University of Surrey’s Stag Hill campus. Please follow the directions on the University’s website for getting to the campus.

WiFi access

If you are from a participating eduroam institution you will be able to connect to the eduroam network at the University of Surrey using your institutions login details. If your device can successfully connect to eduroam at your home institution you should not need to make any changes to use your device at the University of Surrey, or any other institution which supports eduroam.

Parking on campus

While we encourage the use of public transport to reach the conference venue, we have reserved 12 parking spaces for our speakers and exhibitors. These can be booked by following the instructions here.

Dinner Venue

As part of the conference, a gala dinner will take place at the Old Thorns Hotel. Old Thorns offers the perfect base for South Coast UK holiday. Located just an hour from central London and just 30 minutes from the historic coastal city of Portsmouth, there is a whole host of local attractions and days out for the whole family to enjoy.

The delightful Hampshire Suite, reserved for the conference dinner, offers panoramic views of the golf course, plenty of natural light, elegant decor, and French doors that open out onto a spacious courtyard.

On-campus accommodation

Participants are responsible for organising their own accommodation.
A very limited number of on-campus rooms will be available during the on-line registration process. We regret not being able to provide more, due to the proximity to the start of the academic year.

If you have booked on-campus accommodation, please note the following, knowing that you can always rely on the conference team to help.

All keys can be collected and returned from/to Senate House Reception (see table above). When the reception is closed, the Security Office in the same building can handle the process.

Please note that on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th the University will be extremely busy due to move-in weekend.
